About La Charité

La Charité (Charity) was originally the third of a group of sacred choir pieces written by Rossini in 1844. It was set for female chorus and piano. The first piece was titled La foi (Faith) and the second L’espérance (Hope).

This transcription by Aptommas (1829? – 1913) must date from his early career. Aptommas toured throughout Europe and moved to the United States for several yers. He self-published a famous History of the Harp while in New York in 1859.

The editor (Dominique Piana) has preserved the original fingerings of Aptommas, but added pedal changes and corrected inconsistencies.  The music was digitally cleaned up and processed by Françoise Bourret.
