Woelfl

Born in Salzburg in 1783, Joseph Woelfl studied with Mozart’s father Leopold and Michael Haydn, brother of Joseph. He experienced great success as a pianist, first in Vienna, where he enjoyed a rivalry and friendship with Beethoven. A people pleaser, he knew how to “milk” the most pleasing expression out of every phrase turn, while charming the crowds with an amiable demeanor.
