Fuchs
Just as Saint-Saens turned to the harp late in life, Robert Fuchs (1847-1927) composed a Phantasie for us along with a major choir piece, Marienblumen for women’s voices and harp in 1909. A professor of theory at the Vienna Conservatory, he was associated with the Brahms circle, although his compositions were not quite Brahmsian in character. He taught many of the prominent composers of the early 20th century (Mahler, Wolf, Sibelius, Schreker, Zemlinsky, Korngold, etc.) with remarkable openness of mind.
